Events after the 1st turning point
- Amir barely sees Hassan
- Hassan’s withdrawn and sleeps a lot
- Amir and Baba’s relationship is better
“It shouldn’t have felt this way. Baba and I were finally friends… Except now that I had it, I felt as empty as this unkept pool I was dangling my legs into.” Explain this quote ⇒ Amir had wished for so long that Hassan would step out of the picture so that he could get all of the attention from Baba. Even in his absence, Baba still continues to ask and talk about Hassan, which annoys Amir. He knows that now as he is getting all of this attention he does not deserve any of it, after the way he betrayed his friend to do so. He even comes to the fact of feeling physically ill for everything he let Hassan go through.
What we will see is that Amir will spend the rest of his life trying to live with what he has done, and he will finally go on to redeem himself- he tries to make up for what he did to Hassan.
